My first week selling NFT’s

So by now you have probably heard about NFT’s but may still be confused on what they are and how they work. To put it simply they are collectable digital assets. You can now own verified original copies of art direct from your favorite artists, these can come in many different forms such as JPEGs, videos, 3D models, music and more.
People are also selling game items, domain names and other digital assets. Obviously I have been more focused on the digital art side of NFT’s and will share with you my experience so far below.
I admit after weeks of hearing about this NFT stuff I was starting to feel like I was missing out on something big so I decided to do something about it.
I applied to distribute my portfolio with some companies but due to the high demand right now, they are only taking on a select few artists and have become flooded with applications. So in the mean time I thought I should at least set up my own store just to get my foot in the door.
I created an account on Opensea, I recommend watching a YouTube tutorial on how set that up, it’s easier than you think and if there is enough calling maybe I can make a video explaining everything.
My first experiments with NFT’s
So initially I was not sure on what I could offer as as NFT. I saw many artists selling their work in many mediums in a variety of ways.
For now I have decided to mostly offer NFT’s of new edits of my original work, so I started a premium gallery collection where I take my best work, animate it, put it in a special frame and add a hypnotic background. I have also experimented with some new 3D style of animation to display my work.
I am not yet comfortable offering my original JPEGs of my artwork, I feel I would need a big distributor to do that for me…but time will tell.
I may also offer private listings soon…there is a lot to work out!
My first week on Opensea
After creating these special new NFT animations (which take forever by the way!) I made a few posts about it on Instagram and my social media, I’m sure that’s what lead to 2 sales in my first week totaling 0.3 ETH. Not a lot compared to the big websites but for something off my own back I’m happy with that as a starting point. It shows me there is A LOT of potential here.
Going forward…
I’m in a tough space right now as the reason I created this collective was so that I could stay off social media, stop worrying about posting new work, promoting new products and so on. Then out of nowhere the world goes mad for digital art and I feel like I have to take advantage of this wave before it passes by.
However, this is all still so new. What happens if you become the very few artists who are not offering NFT’s, is that going to make your work more wanted, in demand and more valuable?
The only thing I know is I don’t want to just flog all of my work and once at the wrong time. I feel there needs to be a little more clarity and vision before I make any big moves. From what I can see, unless you are with Niftygateway or superrare it’s going to be hard to make get a big payout, but it still COULD happen, so why not try?
